Many thanks to Roger Coveney, one of our fantastic CAFOD school volunteers for visiting St John the Baptist Primary in Andover  to share CAFOD’s Lent fast day assembly on the Amazon.

During the assembly Roger explained that The Amazon Rainforest which is home to many people and animals covers over 2 million square miles including 9 countries, and is very important for the earth’s climate.

However we are losing the rainforest, and every minute the area the size of a football pitch is cut down or burnt. So CAFOD is supporting people like Davi from the Yanomami, an indigenous group of people who live in Brazil, and who are protecting the rainforest from destruction.

The children were so inspired by the assembly that they thought of ways to help save the rainforest and put them on their amazing “goal ” display (above).

If you are interested in inspiring young people to make a difference in their world then why not consider becoming a CAFOD school volunteer! Training and support is provided and we are looking for more schools volunteers in Hampshire, Berkshire and Guernsey. So do get in contact to find out more portsmouth@cafod.org.uk

We are currently feeding the hungry, giving drink to the thirsty and providing clothes and shelter to the survivors of the earthquake and tsunami in Indonesia.  Our Caritas aid workers have reached Palu, with aid – transporting 7 tons of rice, canned sardines, 500 boxes of drinking water, 250 packages of blankets, hygiene kits, water buckets, tarpaulins, mats and sarongs, and have begun distributions.  To help us provide this essential support please donate to our appeal here .
