English Martyrs Primary World Gifts Assembly
Many thanks to English Martyrs Primary school in Reading for welcoming Linda Heneghan to your school to deliver our Advent Assembly on World Gifts. Linda shared stories about some of the gifts and the difference that they make to people’s lives.
Afera lives in Ethiopia with her six children and injured husband. She was given the gift of a marvellous moo cow by CAFOD. The cow gave birth to calves and they now produce about 8 litres of milk a day which Afera uses to make butter which she sells at the local market. With the money she earns she is able to buy food for her family and clothes for her children. If there is any money left over she is going to save it in a community savings scheme.

Nigiste and her family also live in Ethiopia but they do not have any electricity so the gift of a solar lamp helped her children do their homework at night and also meant she no longer needed to spend money on kerosene lamps to light her house.
Amar and her children Dania, Omar and Rama fled Syria with just the clothes on their backs. They now live in a tiny apartment in Jordan and with CAFOD’s help Amar enrolled her children in classes as they had missed lots of school. Amar told us”The children came home telling me everything they learned in school . I was so happy because my children were happy.”
