So far we have had 2 Harvest planning meetings and there are more to come .On Saturday our SE region meeting had over 90 attendees and Clare Dixon CAFOD’s Head of Latin America and the Caribbean gave an inspiring talk about our work in the amazon region. see next blog for the details .
On Monday evening 19 volunteers joined the meeting and I started by thanking them for all their support at Lent fast day which has raised over £3.5 million which is just amazing considering that we were in lockdown in March!
We then explored how the local experts that CAFOD supports are helping communities to tackle the impact of climate change whether it be droughts , flooding , cyclones or earthquakes. The increasing number of extreme weather events are affecting many of the communities that we work with.
“At CAFOD we see again and again how years of development work are swept away overnight by extreme weather. The climate emergency is here and now for so many communities we support. The world’s poorest people have done the least to cause global warming, but are being hit hardest by its impact” Christine Allen director of CAFOD
Next we focused on the resources for Harvest family fast day and the story of Ivanilde who lives in the Amazon Rainforest and works hard to protect and restore the small area of forest she calls home.
