What a beautiful mass of remembrance and thanksgiving we had at St Edmund Church Southampton on Saturday 23rd November. Many thanks to Steve Deadman our Parish Volunteer Coordinator for the Southampton area for organising the Memorial Mass and to Fr Ansel for celebrating the mass for us. Fr Ansel gave a very inspiring homily on the corporal and spiritual works of mercy and how CAFOD’s work is based on them.
One of the spiritual works of mercy is to pray for the dead and the annual memorial mass remembers all those CAFOD supporters and volunteers from the Portsmouth diocese who have died. We also remember all those who have a CAFOD candlelight fund in memory of a loved one and all those who have donated to CAFOD through their will.
At the offertory the CAFOD book of remembrance was taken up and the bidding prayers included those CAFOD volunteers from Portsmouth diocese who had died this year.
Many thanks to Gemma Nichols and the choir for the lovely hymns and to the St Edmund hospitality team for providing the refreshments including a delicious chocolate cake. Thank you to all those who came to the mass and made it such a special celebration.
