It was lovely to see some of our Portsmouth volunteers at the ” No One Beyond Reach” day at Westminster Cathedral hall on Saturday. Christine Allen CAFOD’s new director spoke about our plans for the future and how we can “dare to be different” .
Then we had moving accounts from CAFOD’s International Team . Clare talked about a project supporting health care in a village in El Salvador, Michael spoke about a project for refugees in Sudan and their need for latrines and sanitation, and Gisele told us about a project supporting land rights for the indigenous people in Brazil. We then had to decide in groups which project we would not fund which was extremely difficult!. But this exercise was to simulate the problems that CAFOD has as 1 in 3 projects we are asked to support we can not fund because we don’t have enough money!
In the afternoon there was an inspiring workshop on story telling and how we each have our own important story to tell. We discovered how the power of stories can engage people in CAFOD’s work.
It was a fantastic day and many thanks to all those who put it together and a HUGE thank you to our volunteers who joined us and contributed to the day .
