Wow what a fantastic day we had yesterday with 58 Year 12 students from schools in Arundel & Brighton and Portsmouth dioceses attending their first training day for the CAFOD Young Leadership programme. Many thanks to the students from Blessed Hugh Faringdon Reading,  Cardinal Newman School Hove, Christ the King Isle of Wight,  Farnborough Hill Farnborough, Salesian School Chertsey,  Salesian School Farnborough, Oaklands College Waterlooville, St Anne’s School Southampton , St Joseph”s College Reading and St Peter’s School Guildford for  taking on the role of  CAFOD Young Leaders in your schools.  Your enthusiasm and energy was amazing and we hope you found the day inspiring and informative.

Sarah Burrows from CAFOD’s Youth team started the day with a reflection on CAFOD’s vision and values . After some lively icebreakers the students looked at some statistics on global poverty for example 844 million people still don’t have access to safe drinking water . Then they explored what makes a good leader and the qualities of leadership. Next they participated in On the Move which is a refugee simulation exploring the feelings of people having to flee from their home because of war. The students then worked together in their school groups to plan the activities that will carry out this term in their schools.
