Many thanks to Farnborough Hill school for hosting the second day of training for our Young Leaders on Thursday 25th January. Sixth formers from Blessed Hugh Faringdon Reading, Christ the King Isle of Wight, Salesian College Farnborough, Salesian College Chertsey, St Anne’s Southampton, St Joseph College Reading, St Peter’s Guildford and Farnborough Hill School attended the joint Portsmouth and Arundel & Brighton diocesan training day. During the day we explored CAFOD values, fund raising, communication skills and Lent family fast day.
We started the day by celebrating the activities that the Young Leaders had led in their schools on the Power to Be campaign last term and shared their success and challenges. Next we looked at CAFOD’s values and asked the students to produce a freeze frame of each one. Martin, CPC for A&B led a workshop called Be the Project Manager where the students had a budget of £20,000 and had to decide which overseas projects to fund. Finally we focused on the upcoming Lent fast day Give It Up appeal and asked the students to plan an assembly and fundraising activities to support this appeal.
A HUGE thank you to Sarah Burrows from the CAFOD Youth team for leading the day. Many thanks to the teachers and chaplains who accompanied the students, and special thanks to Farnborough Hill school for hosting the day and providing lunch for everyone. We look forward to hearing about your Lenten activities at the third and final training day on 26th April.
