Many thanks to Maureen Thompson our CAFOD parish volunteer at SS Thomas More & Thomas of Canterbury, Emsworth for organising the Power to Be card signing on Sunday 16th July .
Maureen told us “Before everyone breaks up for the holiday we thought we would celebrate with our campaign action for CAFOD. At children’s liturgy we discussed the Gospel of the sower about growing to our full potential in the rich soil! The children talked about wanting to grow up to be bloggers, tennis players, footballers authors actors and scientists and discussed the children in the Power to be campaign from some of the worlds poorest communities and how they too had big ambitions to grow.
Some children, like Veronica from Kenya were hindered in their ambitions by lack of electricity to light up their homes and schools for studying. However CAFOD is campaigning for them to have solar energy in their homes , so with our big sun display we wrote messages on the rays to thanks our heavenly Father for the warm sun and ask him to help all children to grow to our full potential. The children shared their big sun poster with everyone in church and invited them to sign up to the CAFOD Power to be campaign on cards provided.
After Mass everyone was invited to breakfast outside while completing a campaign card and signing up to join us on 9th September in our pilgrimage to Portsmouth Cathedral in commemoration of Archbishops Romero’s Centenary – everyone is invited to walk and pray with us on 9th September.
