Portsmouth Cathedral Youth Group Make a Splash!

Cathedral Youth Group April 2016 (1280x718)Thank you SO MUCH to everyone in the Portsmouth Cathedral Youth group who all washed a LOT of cars after Mass earlier in April and raised a massive £120 for CAFOD! Thank you all!  Here you can see Dom de Boo, the Pastoral Area Youth Worker, presenting the group’s cheque to our Education Volunteer, Alison Humphreys, after Mass last Sunday!

Thank you so much everyone for helping our partners ‘Make a Splash’ this Lent for thousands of people in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Zimbabwe, and Uganda.

Watch our special film below, featuring 15 year old Guti from Uganda. Guti nearly dropped out of school because there was no clean, safe water and had to walk to the river for water to drink or to wash.

CAFOD partners were able to repair the water pump near Guti’s school, provide a portable sink and soap for handwashing, and train teachers to help pupils learn good hygiene routines. This has meant fewer pupils miss school due to illness and some girls are taking high-school exams that only boys took before.

Thank you so much to every member of the Cathedral Youth Group for raising this much needed money to help us ‘turn on the taps’ across the world by, for example, repairing or providing water pumps and training in order to maintain them.

Has this inspired you to run your own fundraising event?  Take a look at our host of fundraising ideas and ‘how to guides’.
