Amazing Curry and Quiz Night raises over £800

Basingstoke Curry and Quiz Night Lent 2016

Last Saturday, seventeen teams battled it out at the ever popular Curry and Quiz night at St Joseph’s parish hall in Basingstoke.  Seventeen!  The biggest event yet!  In fact, this year the tickets were all sold out days before the event and ninety parishioners took part – raising an absolutely whopping £892!  Wow!

Organiser, Mike Woolf said,

“It was very much a squeeze getting everyone into our tiny space but we just about managed it!   Thanks to Fr Mark and several parishioners who made curries or helped out on the night.  We made a terrific £892 for CAFOD from the quiz alone and this is in addition to the regular collection/donations we collected at Mass so we’re very pleased with this indeed.”

Well done to the winning team “All Bar One” with 65 out of a possible 80 points (pictured above).

As you all know, all these special events will have double the impact this year because we have once again successfully secured UK Aid Match Funding for our Lenten appeal. This means that the UK government will match pound for pound every donation made to the appeal – up to the value of £3.5M.  Terrific!

Thank you so much everyone for helping our partners ‘Turn on the taps’ and provide clean water and better sanitation for thousands of people in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Zimbabwe, and Uganda.

Has this inspired you to run your own fundraising event?  Take a look at our host of fundraising ideas and ‘how to guides’ and don’t forget – all proceeds from events like these held in aid of our Lenten appeal up to 9 May will qualify for match funding!  Hooray!
