Throughout Fairtrade Fortnight, CAFOD supporters worked together with Havant Fairtrade group, Oaklands Fairtrade group, Oxfam, Traidcraft, Palestine Coop and Churches Together to promote, sell and taste a range of great Fairtrade products.
CAFOD volunteer Maureen Thompson told us,
“We finished the fortnight by inviting everyone along to St Joseph’s parish hall for a celebration and tasting evening.
“We tasted six different wines and enjoyed donations of Fairtrade Liberation Nuts and a variety of Traidcraft dried fruits and chocolate. The highlight of the evening food wise though was the beautiful cake baked by Caroline – one of our very talented parishioners!
“To help us understand the opportunity Fairtrade gives to farmers to improve their work lives and provide for their families, we watched the Fairtrade Matters film which you can see (in full here). The trailer is featured below.
“Lots of fun was had by all! We also held a raffle and received donations – raising £287.50 for CAFOD which people were particularly happy with as, this Lent, the UK government will match it pound for pound!”

Don’t forget, as Maureen says, this Lent, the UK government will match every pound donated to CAFOD’s Lent Fast Day appeal up to the value of £5 million, from Wednesday 18 February to Friday 17 May.
This means that all donations made as a result of all these super events will have double the impact, helping even more people living in extreme poverty overseas. Brilliant!
Thanks so much to everyone who supported the event and to Maureen for her lovely photos.
