Sixth Formers from Farnborough Hill, St Peter’s in Bournemouth, Oaklands Catholic School in Waterlooville, St Joseph’s College in Reading and St Anne’s Convent in Southampton, gathered together for their second day’s training as part of our Youth Leadership Programme earlier this month.
The students spent the day looking at communication and presentation skills whilst sharing some of the activities they’ve already been involved in back at school.
Our blog readers will know already that the team from St Anne’s have given presentations back in October on CAFOD’s campaign One Climate, One World. They are also planning more assemblies where they will be asking pupils to take action as part of the ‘For the love of’ Climate Coalition campaign later in March.
St Joseph’s College held a St Valentine’s disco on 13 February for 100 Year 7 and Year 8 students. Back in December, they too held assemblies to raise awareness of CAFOD’s work and on the last day of term organised a ‘Dress as something festive’ day which raised around £400! The group will also embark on a ‘Parable of the Talents’ project later in Lent. Watch this space for more details about that!
Oaklands’s team have held a special prayer session in the Sixth Form common room and organised a basketball tournament for Year 10 students. They also held a special online petition signing session in support of One Climate, One World back in December and received 120 signatures!
Farnborough Hill have given presentations to their teachers about the Youth Leadership scheme as well as a whole school assembly on the work of CAFOD. They will be organising assemblies before Fast Day and the school will be holding a special Rich Man/Poor Man lunch on the day itself. They are also planning a special event to take place on 6 March. More details to follow!
Thank you all for your enthusiasm and wonderful work so far! It’s fantastic to hear your stories. Do keep them coming!
