UCM Yateley’s Support for Philippines Typhoon Haiyan Appeal

A big THANK YOU to all the UCM Yateley members who very kindly presented me with a cheque for £217 for our Philippines Typhoon Haiyan Appeal on Tuesday night. Thank you so much for your unstinting support for CAFOD.

I was lucky enough to be invited to speak to the group about my experience working in Ethiopia back in 2009 at the Daughters of Charity Rainy Season Summer School in Mekelle.  It was five years ago now but I remember it very well indeed.

We then ended the evening by talking a little about our Connect2 scheme whereby communities in England and Wales can hear from people in developing communities – including Ethiopia.  We looked at some of the questions the community in Beira had previously asked communities here in England and Wales and I explained a little of how the scheme worked and the ability to receive and send stories and photographs to get a better understanding of people’s hope and dreams as well as struggles and challenges.

It was a lovely evening. Thank you so much everyone for raising £217 for our appeal.  It’s very much appreciated.
