Digging Deep in the Portsmouth Diocese!

O my days what a fab meeting that was on Saturday at our Supporters’ Meeting in Basingstoke!!! Thank you all so much for coming along and making it feel so special. Sixty dedicated CAFOD supporters attended from all over the diocese despite the awful weather!

We are really grateful to our fantastic speakers!  Mark Chamberlain gave a great talk on the community in Sierra Leone who have inspired our Lent Fast Day story. It was good to hear his personal reflections on his time there with our partner Caritas Kenema and a fab chance to have all our questions answered too.  Mark’s talk can be downloaded from here.

Also we really cannot thank Helen Eales, Clare Lasker and Maureen Thompson enough for their input.   Their talks on parish teams, Connect2 and the livesimply Award really showed us just how effective working in groups can be.

One volunteer said to me, ‘If there’s one message I’m taking away from today – it’s that I must find others to help me.’  Absolutely!

The day was also an opportunity to catch up with the latest news from our diocese and receive an overall briefing on our many Lenten resources.  Each resource is designed to encourage us all to ‘dig deep’ – not just into our pockets but into ourselves and our faith; to help us reflect on our relationships with one another and God through prayer, through our actions and our alms giving.

We really hope you found the day useful.  Thank you too for helping us say a temporary ‘goodbye’ to Laura – who I already miss terribly! – and for sharing some cake with us afterwards.

I leave you with a special thank you to everyone for all their hard work this Lent from our Sierra Leone Country Representative, Kayode Akintola.

We look forward to hearing from you in the next few weeks about all the things you’re doing locally!  Do let us know! Thank you all!

PS – Don’t forget that all our brilliant short films can all be downloaded from our Youtube channel – http://www.youtube.com/user/cafodtv  Take a look and be inspired!
