Huge congratulations to our supporters from Didcot, father-and-son team Ben and Rick Oldham, who took part in the Great North Run last Sunday! Rick’s wife, Kath, is one of the fab members of our Education Volunteer Team, together with being our parish contact in Didcot, while her son Ben, our friend and colleague, works at CAFOD HQ in the Direct Marketing Team.
The family has been actively supporting CAFOD since Ben was young. Ben pipped his dad to the post by a mere 18 seconds in a time of two hours and one minute.
Ben said: “I’m really pleased with my time. It was hard going on the hill at the end but I was cheered along by CAFOD supporters on the route, which really kept me going. It was great running it with my dad and after him beating me during training I was pleasantly surprised to cross the line first on the day. It’s been a really good experience and I can’t wait to do it again!”
Rick said: “It was harder than normal, as we were really going faster than we should have at the end to try and beat each other! Ben just took the lead at the end. The weather wasn’t as bad as we had feared, as a real downpour was forecast. My local Parish, the English Martyrs in Didcot, has been really supportive of our fundraising and Ben and I have reached over £850, which is amazing. We really support CAFOD because of their stewardship of their funds and how they spend the money. We’ve always been supporters and it’s great to do something for them whilst also having a great day out and time together.”
Thank you so much Ben and Rick! Your fundraising achievement is truly amazing! We hope you are enjoying a very well deserved rest this week!
