CAFOD supporters from the parishes of the Waterside and Totton met with Dr Julian Lewis, MP for New Forest East at his constituency office last week to seek his support for the “Enough Food For Everyone If” coalition campaign.
The campaigners Dr Lewis, MP for New Forest East Constituency to write to the Prime Minister, David Cameron, and the Chancellor of the Exchequer, George Osborne, to ensure they keep their promises on aid to poor countries and crack down on tax-dodging by big companies, which costs poor countries three times the amount they receive in UK aid.
Louise Croll, spokesperson for the group, said : “There was an interesting discussion on the campaigners’ main requests and Dr Lewis commented particularly on the call to end tax-dodging in poorer countries which is of course a topical issue at present in the UK. He undertook to write to Mr Osborne and to forward a letter to him from the campaigners immediately.”
The group handed to Dr Lewis a number of messages to the Prime Minister from some of the primary school children calling for us all to share our food with the hungry and to give more help. Dr Lewis promised to send these messages to the Chancellor of the Exchequer, the Rt Hon George Osborne, whom he was sure would appreciate them.
