Sixth Formers from the CAFOD Action Group at Oaklands Catholic School pledged to write to their MPs last month as part of the Enough Food for Everyone IF campaign.
MPs Mark Hoban (Fareham), Penny Mordaunt (Portsmouth North) and David Willetts (Havant) should all be finding letters in their in-trays from the group very soon, asking them to write to the Prime Minister and the Chancellor on their behalf about two specific issues.
Firstly, asking them to confirm that from 2013 onwards, 0.7% of national income will go to life-saving aid, stopping children dying from hunger and helping the poorest people feed themselves.
And secondly, that the Chancellor announces that the Finance Bill will make UK companies operating in poor countries spill the beans on any tax dodging. Developing countries need more information to enable them to collect the tax due from UK companies. This could help them collect the money they’re owed and generate funds needed to end hunger.
This is part of an all important lobby of MPs taking place at the moment to ensure that the Budget on 20 March is a landmark moment in the fight against hunger.
Thank you everyone at Oaklands for covering all three constituencies in one go! Brilliant! Do let us know how you get on.
