Last Saturday, over 40 supporters from all over our diocese gathered at St Bede’s school in Basigstoke for our Supporters’ Meeting. It was great to see you all! We were joined by a really special guest speaker this time – Clare Dixon OBE, Head of Latin America and the Caribbean.
The meeting opened with a prayer and the latest news from our diocese. It was great to be able to provide some initial feedback on how the £9M raised by our Lenten appeal will be spent and how we will be able to scale up our water and sanitation programme considerably thanks to your generosity, and to feedback on the success of our Thirst for Change campaign and the latest events that have taken place in our diocese.
Afterwards, Clare Dixon gave an overview of CAFOD’s approach to development and she stressed the fact that partnership and listening to our local partners on the ground is the foundation of all our work and provided some concrete examples from Guatemala and El Salvador.
We then gave an overview of the Harvest Fast Day theme and resources (“Make a place at your table“) and our new Hungry for Change campaign . You can download the presentations from the day, with all the latest updates, from here. We also recommend you to take a look at our Harvest Fast Day film if you haven’t seen it yet!
During the much-needed comfort break, we had the pleasure to celebrate the birthday of our long-standing supporter and volunteer Briony from the Totton CAFOD group (and share some yummy chocolate cake too)! Happy birthday again Briony!
During the final session, Clare anwered all the questions on CAFOD and international development that were formulated in groups earlier in the day. It was an absolutely fantastic session thanks to Clare’s great deal of experience and inside-out knowledge of CAFOD! It was a real privilege to have her with us! We have filmed the session and next week we will able to post the videos on the blog after editing – so watch this space!
It was a real pleasure to see so many of you there and we hope to hear from many of you in the following weeks and months about what you are doing in your parishes for Harvest Fast Day and to promote our Hungry for Change campaign. Please let us know whatever you are doing, no matter how small! And remember to send us photos for the blog!
We also hope to see many of you at the Campaigns Conference – official launch of the Hungry for Change campaign – on 10 November at Westminster Cathedral Hall. Please let us know if you would like to attend and we will book you a place.
Our next Supporters’ Meeting will be on 19 January 2013 (venue TBC – probably St Bede’s school again), so make sure you book the date in your diaries!
