With the Olympics coming up very soon, the London dioceses of Westminster, Brentwood and Southwark have teamed up to launch a brilliant initiative called “100 Days of Peace“.
The aim is to promote one hundred days of peace-making in schools, parishes and communities for fifty days either side of the Games. This is is accompanied by an equally important UN resolution, signed by all 193 member states, calling for a cessation of conflict during the period of the Games. We call on all nations to fulfil the commitments of the UN Resolution and enable a peaceful Games to be enjoyed around the world.
Many events are planned over the 100 days (check out the website for more information and details), but we just wanted to bring to your attention the Peace Vigil that will be held on 8/9 June at St Martin’s in the Fields in Trafalgar Square to mark the start of the 100 days of peace.
It will begin at 11pm on Friday 8 June and end at midday on Saturday 9 June. CAFOD, together with World Vision, Christian Aid and Tearfund, will be inputting in the slot between 5am and 6am.
It should be a great event and it is of course not necessary to stay for the full 12 hours! Keep an eye on the website for the latest details – there will be something planned for every hour of the vigil.
