Big congratulations to St Thomas More Primary School in Havant for gaining Fairtrade status recently!
For a whole year, pupils have been learning and working hard to gain the Fairtrade school award. The assessors thought the school’s steering committee was “brilliant”, because it involved the whole school in discussing Fairtrade, with two children from every class represented on the committee – as well as parents and staff.
They planned events to promote Fairtrade throughout the year, not only for children but for parents and visitors too. Assessors were also very pleased with the “excellent” level of learning the children had gained in lessons, giving them a deep understanding of Fairtrade and the way it helps producers.
The picture shows the school’s latest event: a Fairtrade coffee morning for parents during Fairtrade fortnight. All along the back wall you can see the “steps towards Fairtrade” that the children had taken (“Take a step towards Fairtrade” was the theme of this year’s fortnight).
Well done to everyone on this great achievement 🙂
