Havant parishes are going the extra mile this Lent!

The parishes of Havant and Emsworth are literally going the extra mile to support CAFOD this Lent! They have recently registered for the livesimply award (take a look at their fantastic website) and during Lent they are going to make an extra effort in support of CAFOD’s give it up! Lenten appeal and Thirst for Change campaign through a whole range of activities.

First of all, they have organised a series of walks for all parishioners to take part in – starting with a “Water Walk” to raise awareness of water poverty and ending with a walk focuising on sport in Leigh Park Gardens.

The complete programme is as follows:

– Sunday 4th March – Walk along Emsworth water front – prayers and activities will be focusing on the gift of water
– Sunday 18th March – Walk from Emsworth to Westbourne, focusing on the gift of family and particularly motherhood
– Sunday 25th March – Walk around Staunton Park in Havant, focusing on sports and the Olympic values

A leaflet with all the details can be downloaded here.

Together with the walks, they are also encouraging everyone to give, act and pray for CAFOD this Lent! A whole list of events is available at the back of the leaflet – highlights are a special Fast Day liturgy on Friday 2 March (Fast Day itself) at 7pm, followed by an International Evening at 7.30pm at St Joseph’s, Havant.

Lastly, parishioner Nigel Miller is undertaking an extra-special challenge for CAFOD – walking from Southwark Cathedral in London to Canterbury Cathedral from 11th to 15th March! We look forward to hear all about Nigel’s adventures! Please sponsor him by accessing his justgiving page. Click here for more details of his challenge!

A huge thanks to our local volunteer Maureen Thompson who has been working so hard to put the programme together and inolve as many people as possible! We look forward to publishing photos from the various events!
