Massively encouraged by the Tea Time for Change outcome last Thursday, tonight I had the opportunity to meet with my local MP, Home Secretary Theresa May, together with fellow campaigners Simon Bond from Maidenhead Quakers and Jane Lewis from my parish, St Edmund Campion.
Each of us covered one of the 3 main issues we were encouraged to discuss with MPs: aid, tax dodging/country-by-country reporting and the Robin Hood Tax. Theresa May was very well informed about all 3 of them and also aware of the success of the day last Thursday. We had a good discussion and she will be following up with both George Osborne and David Cameron about the issues, which is great news. Finally we presented her with the special “Tea Time for Change” mug and closed with a group photo! 🙂
If you have never lobbied your MP before – it is definitely such a worthwhile and positive experience. You can truly come out and say: “Today I’ve made a difference!”, as keeping global poverty high on the political agenda is so important!
We definitely achieved an awful lot with Tea Time for Change nationally – let’s keep the momentum going! We are always looking for more MP correspondents locally to write to their MPs and meet with them to raise global issues, so if you think that’s something for you but have never got round to it before, now it’s the right time! Drop us a line at firstname.lastname@example.org for more information and/or a lobby pack.
