Registrations have finally opened this week for a very important event – Tea Time for Change! It will take place on 9th June at the Methodist Central Hall, Westminster, London, SW1H 9NH and it will be a mass lobby of MPs on international development. The event is organised in coalition with Action Aid, Christian Aid, Oxfam, Save the Children and Tearfund. Although it takes place on a weekday (as the MPs need to be at work!), we hope as many of you as possible can make it – as we need to send a loud and clear message to our MPs! You can find details of the issues we are going to raise here and an outline of the day here.
So what’s the next step? Registrations are now OPEN on our website. Just enter your postcode and follow the instructions. If you register to attend, you will then be asked to send an email to your MP (template provided!) to let them know you are coming and want to meet them! However, even if you cannot attend, you can still support the lobby via a petition – just choose the option “Please pass my message to (your MP). I support the event but can’t make it to London” when you register.
Registration can also be done via phone through a dedicated Campaigns line, just ring 020 7095 5416 and speak to James – we will be sending you a letter in the post to send to your MP.
Even if your MP cannot make it on the day – it is still worth coming! As you can see from the programme, there will be plenty of activities and workshops that you could take part in on the day – plus big numbers also help… to show all MPs that we care!
If you have registered and you are definitely coming – could you consider becoming a Constituency Champion? It’s not as big a role as it might seem! It’s just about being a point of contact for people from your constituency who might register – and you might wish to organise a preliminary meeting with them beforehand to discuss what you want to say to your MP – altough this is not at all compulsory! If you feel this is something you can do, just let us know – you can then register as Constituency Champion on the website.
Do let us know if you are coming to the lobby! It can only be a mass lobby if we get lots of people there so if you are free on that day – do come along 🙂
