Sunshine Bliss at the Great South Run!

We spent a lovely and sunshine-blessed weekend in Portsmouth last week – taking part in the Mini & Junior Great South Run on Saturday and the main Great South Run on Sunday! Huge congratulations to all our amazing CAFOD runners who completed the race!

Alex, pictured above, was our Junior Run hero! He completed the race (2.5 km) in just 12.57 minutes thanks to all his training, and has already raised more than £300 for CAFOD! He had support from all his family who came along to cheer him on on the day!

On Sunday we moved to the Royal Beach hotel (opposite South Parade Pier), where we were based this year – we covered the hotel in CAFOD banners which was great!

We were at mile 6 and we had a lovely time shouting out loud and cheering up all the runners while waving CAFOD placards.

A big thanks to all the runners who made the effort to walk a little distance after completing the race, to come and see us at the hotel – they were rewarded with a free massage, a goodie bag and a good cup of tea! Among them were Bruce Finch, Karen West, Michelle De Souza, Edward Rumble, Kevin Lawler and William Shippin – all pictured below!

Our fab volunteer Bruce Finch proudly completed his first GSR!

Karen run for us for the 4th year in a row!

Michelle was proud to complete her longest running distance ever!

4th time GSR for Kevin too!

William really enjoyed the Great South Run atmosphere!

Ed completed the race in just 1h 10mins!!

For some of them it was the first Great South Run experience, while others were seasoned runners, like Kevin and Karen who had been running the GSR for the 4th year in a row – and always for CAFOD!

Overall it was a great weekend – if you haven’t taken part in the GSR yet why not consider coming along next year? If you make the decision now… you’ve got a whole year head for training ;)!!! Thanks again to everyone for their amazing fundraising efforts!
