On Friday 15 October, the parish of St Edward the Confessor in Chandler’s Ford held a special Mass to celebrate the life of Archbishop Oscar Romero and their involvement in the “Connect2: El Salvador” project.
The parish has been involved in Connect2 from the very start, and so far they have already raised over £4,000 to support the work of CAFOD’s partners in El Salvador. The Mass, celebrated by Fr George Lyons, was a wonderful occasion to commemorate Oscar Romero 30 years after his assassination and to pray for the people of Puentecitos and of El Salvador at the same time. At the end of Mass, a short video on Puentecitos was shown, giving people a chance to “meet” the community there and to learn about the work of CAFOD’s partner JDS (Jesuit Development Service).
After Mass, delicious refreshments were served and everybody enjoyed a good chat over a cup of tea. We were there with our CAFOD stall and our volunteer Anne Dodd came all the way from Abingdon with her Pax Christi stall.
Our thanks goes to Cecily Exwhorty, our parish contact, for all her hard work in organising the Mass, to the CAFOD group and all parishioners involved, to Fr George and to the parish choir for their beautiful singing, and to all those who came along to the event. It was a lovely evening!
