The Great South Run (24th October) is now only a few weeks away – and we are looking forward to it! (and to the Mini and Junior Run too on Sat 23). Our runners are gearing up for the big day and training hard – we’d like to introduce you to a couple more of them!
Pictured above is John Woods from Winchester, who is not new to the challenge (as you can see from his shiny medal!) but ready to get involved again! John said: “I am doing the Great South Run because I am a firm advocate of the work CAFOD does and I want to go some small way to helping them end poverty and injustice.” We are really grateful for his efforts – best of luck for the race John 🙂 If you wish to sponsor John visit his JustGiving page here.
Our second featured runner, pictured above, is Karen West from Waterlooville – she is a seasoned runner and is taking part in the GSR for the 4th consecutive year! She said: “CAFOD was my only choice of charity – I remember Family Fast Days when I was a small child and I have supported CAFOD throughout my whole life”. Thanks a million Karen for your generosity and continuous support! Best of luck to you too! If you wish to sponsor Karen visit her JustGiving page here.
We look forward to welcoming John, Karen, Bruce and all our other runners on the day! This year, we won’t be in the charity tent as usual – as the cost of renting a place there is unfortunately very high. So, to save money, we will be at the Beach Hotel instead (Best Western) on St Helen’s Parade, PO4 0RN (right opposite South Parade Pier) – it should be a good position as it is right along the race course! We will have a room booked there, at the front, so do come and see us there before and after the run!
As usual, we will need volunteers to help us on the day! Please let us know if you can come and help us.
We need volunteers for:
– (most importantly) cheering our runners along the race course. Every year the runners point out how important it is to get that support, so if you can spare some time and… some of your voice, we will provide with a complete “cheering kit” – baloons, banners, and a brollie in case of rain so that you’ve got nothing to fear!
– probably a couple of people to help us welcoming the runners and signing them off when they arrive – and also doing some interviews at the end.
If you think you could help us and fancy a different day out (there is always a great atmosphere!) – please let us know! We would love to see you there!
