A big thanks to all of you who attended our Supporters day and the Climate Justice Mass in Basingstoke on Saturday 12th September and helped make the day a success – it was great to see you all!
Maurice McPartlan, Head of Africa, gave a very informative and thought-provoking presentation on CAFOD’s approach to development, focusing also on Margaret’s story (the “heroine” of Harvest Fast Day 09 – see www.cafod.org.uk/fastday) and on the way in which the global recession and growing inflation in developing countries has impacted on the value of CAFOD’s grants to partners.
Martin gave an inspiring first hand account of his travels to Bangladesh, the work of CAFOD’s partners there and the wonderful people he met – you can read more about that in our latest newsletter! (if you do not receive the newsletter and would like a copy, please contact us!)
There was also a chance to get an update on our Climate Justice campaign and, most importantly, to pray together at the special Climate Justice Mass that ended the day – it was a lovely way to stand in solidarity with our partners in the South of the world and to pray for world leaders ahead of the Copenhagen meeting. A special thanks to Fr Showri for celebrating Mass, to all those who returned “hands” to help us decorate the church, to Margaret, our office volunteer, who spent hours of her time tying all the hands together (so much appreciated!), to Martin and Antonio for the great music and of course to all of you for coming along or remembering us in prayer – it was truly a great and enjoyable day. 🙂
Our next Supporters Day will be on Saturday 9th January at St Bede’s and we hope to see you all again!
