Last Lent the North West Hampshire Pastoral Area organised a very successful Quiz night in aid of CAFOD.
Our supporter Mary Lee, from St Michael’s parish in Tadley, reports:
When Tadley & Kingsclere Parish issued a challenge to compete for a Pastoral Area Quiz Challenge Trophy to their neighbouring parishes in the North West Hampshire Pastoral Area, they had not really done their homework in more ways than one: they had not appreciated that the other congregations contained some highly knowledgeable quiz specialists!
So when about 100 people from four parishes came together at Pamber Heath Memorial Hall for the quiz night in aid of CAFOD, the electronic scoreboard soon revealed after the first two or three rounds, that the trophy and first prize would be won by one of two of the teams from St Joseph’s, Basingstoke, who were right out in front, neck and neck, to the final “Cartoon Cavalcade” round, when “Rotor Volgograd Supporters Club” shot ahead and claimed victory. In addition to the trophy and individual medals for all members of the winning team, they won a CAFOD World Gift of a goat!
Meanwhile, several teams from Tadley & Kingsclere were hotly competing at the other end of the scoreboard for the consolation prize for the lowest overall score of the night! In the end, “Soul Survivors” carried off their CAFOD World Gift of seeds and saplings.
CAFOD materials were on display around the hall and a number of fundraising activities took place during the evening – a bottle game, a sale of pashminas and jewellery, and the obligatory raffle – which, with entry fees and donations, raised a total of £435 for CAFOD from the North West Hampshire Pastoral Area.
Special thanks go to Tony Darroch from Tadley, an excellent quizmaster and MC on the night, who also put in many hours’ work beforehand researching the questions, and to all those parishioners from around the PA who turned out and made it such an enjoyable evening.
A big thanks from us to all parishioners who attended the evening and to all the organisers of this great event for their efforts!
